MJLA CONSULTING organized a one-day learning workshop on 14 November 2014 at Avari Hotel, Lahore, for the senior leadership and management of government enterprises to share and discuss insights, perspectives, strategies and solutions about setting-up, building and managing a government enterprise to deliver practical results.

The workshop was divided into four (4) sessions of Ninety (90) minutes and covered the following topics:

  • Making the Decision: Designing Innovative Structures
  • Building the Foundation: Governance and Management Models
  • Setting the Direction: Strategic Planning & Core Competences
  • Making it Happen: Operational capabilities for Execution Success

From policy innovation to delivery of public services, governments now rely on dynamic capabilities which include agile, lean and innovative structures, to perform their functions. The initiatives for government process re-engineering often raise fundamental questions about the role and utility of government departments, project management units, quasi-independent agencies, statutory authorities, and government-owned companies.

The aim of the workshop was to provide a forum where the policy-makers, strategic leaders and senior managers working in government or government enterprises (especially chairpersons, directors, chief executive officers and chief operating officers) through presentations and dialogue explore the nature, limitations and advantages of various structures, their governance and management models, the leadership challenges of building and managing them, and the critical factors which impact their success.

The participants of the workshop included Head of Performance Monitoring Unit, CM Office, Punjab, the Chief Executive Officer of Lahore Waste Management Company, Managing Director, Punjab Health Foundation, Chief Operating Officer, Engineering and Consultancy Services Punjab, Director General, Punjab Information Technology Board, Joint Director, Punjab Information Technology Board, and Company Secretary & Legal Head, Lahore Waste Management Company.
